Men loading hay onto a truck, Arusha, Tanzania. This image shows several different types of stored energy and energy use. The hay stored a significant amount of solar energy in the sugars and structural compounds of the growing grass. Now, men are using energy from the food they ate earlier in the day to load the hay onto the truck, which will use solar energy stored by plants tens of millions of years ago (and recently brought to the surface to be refined into gasoline) to move the hay to another place. Once there, the hay will likely be fed to animals that will become food for humans, fueling further actions.
