Pumping water by hand, Southwest India. In Mala, a town of about 5,000 people, many residents still get their water from a hand pump, as shown here, and carry it to their homes. The trench in the foreground was being dug for new phone lines, fiber optic cables. That is quite a contrast, hand pumps and fiber optics.
