You may want to discuss with your students the different types of adaptations that the desert plants shown here demonstrate. Given that every leaf requires significant amounts of precious resources to create, note the toughness of the agave leaves, and how little herbivore damage they have suffered. You may also want to compare this and other desert panoramas for similarities and differences.

The Chihuahuan Desert lies to the east of the Sonoran Desert. Just as the Sonoran is characterized by saguaro cactus, the Chihuahuan Desert's iconic plant is lechuguilla (Agave lechuguilla), a close relative of the spiky agaves seen in this panorama.
