Aposematic coloration in gila monster, Arizona. Gila monsters, the largest lizards in the USA, are known for their poisonous bites. Once they bite, they may hold on for a long time, chewing and injecting their painful venom. The black-and-pink coloration appears to be a classic example of aposematic coloring, although in this dappled early morning light, it also appears to be cryptic coloration.
