Basking hyraxes, Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. Hyraxes, a primitive group related to elephants and manatees are quite poor at thermoregulating compared to most mammals. They can overheat in direct sunlight even in moderate temperatures, and need to bask in order to keep their body temperature up in cold weather.
