Firewood pile, just before winter, Massachusetts. Trees grow quite well in New England, and in colonial days the ability to heat one?s home using the virtually unlimited supply of firewood was one of the land?s greatest riches. As the forests have regrown in the past century and a half, a number of people have returned to using this renewable source of energy for heating.
